Halloween Apple Monster Mouths Recipe #SmokehouseBBQ

Many people around the world celebrate Halloween, which occurs annually on October 31. Celebrations usually include costume parties, trick-or-treating and haunted houses. Last year in our neighborhood, we had a fun time “BOOing” our friends. If you are not familiar with this tradition, make sure to check out the You’ve Been Boo-ed site for more details.  I love how the leaves change color this time of year and there is pumpkin in just about everything including coffee, cookies, cupcakes and more.

Have you seen our Pumpkin Pie Spice Buttercream Frosting Recipe? It’s SOOO good and goes great with just about anything!

Apple Monster Mouths Recipe

Yield: 1
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Apple
  • 1/4 cup Peanut Butter
  • Yogurt Covered Raisins OR
  • Almond Slivers OR
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Red Food Coloring

Instructions

  1. Add 8 drops of food coloring to peanut butter and mix well to make it more mouth colored.
  2. Slice off the sides of the apple leaving a section in the middle which includes the core.
  3. Slice each of the sides in half and then cut out a wedge in each to make a mouth.
  4. If you are making these up in advance, use lemon juice on cut areas of apple to minimize browning.
  5. Fill mouth with peanut butter.
  6. If your apples are small, only one row of teeth will fit.
  7. If you are using marshmallows, allow them to sit open on a counter for several hour to begin to dry out, so they are easier to cut.
  8. Use scissors and cut diagonally to shape fangs or horizontally to make teeth.
  9. Use a knife to trim almond slivers if you want a nice straight edge for teeth.
