ORGANIZING TIPS: PART 3
Spring Organization Series: Get Organized in 30 Minutes a Day
You might think you need to spend days and weeks getting your home organized. But the truth is, in as little as thirty minutes a day you can make a huge impact on your surroundings. Chances are you are busy, and perhaps tackling this task thirty minutes at a time is more feasible for you. Those thirty minutes will add up over the course of a week, and you will find that little by little your organizational goals are reached. Below, you will see how to get organized in thirty minutes a day.
You have your supplies, you have cleared away the clutter, now start organizing! You don’t need to cross off a weekend or call off work, all you need is thirty minutes at a time to get yourself going! Take a peek!
How to Get Organized in 30 Minutes a Day:
1. Set the timer
Before you even begin, set a timer for 30 minutes. This will keep your focused knowing you are being timed. It will motivate you and help you make the best use of your time. Use an oven timer or even a timer on your cell phone. Set it, and go.
2. Avoid distractions.
As long as your timer is running, block out any other distractions. Turn your phone off, turn the television off, and even get rid of music if it is going to distract you. By not stopping due to small distractions, you will be able to breeze through your work easily.
3. Tackle the paper pile.
Spend a few minutes sorting through and tossing junk mail. Get rid of papers and documents which have no use and file away the ones you need for later. Display children’s school work and art projects. Recycle whatever paper items you can. Est. Time: 5 minutes
4. Perform trash detail.
Using your plastic shopping bags, go through the room and gather trash. This includes wrappers, paper scraps, tissues, etc. Many times small trash items get set aside and never picked up. Now is the time to clear it away. Est. Time: 5 minutes
5. Sort a drawer…or two!
Pick a drawer and start sorting. Get rid of any trash and organize small pieces such as paper clips, pins, etc. using one of the methods mentioned in the first part of this series. Everything in the drawer should be easily accessible and able to be seen. Done with time to spare? Do another! Est. Time: 10 minutes
6. Gather misplaced items.
What are shoes doing in the bathroom? Or a hair brush in the family room? Take a bag and go around gathering misplaced items. Then, return these items to their proper place. That way, they are not taking up space where they shouldn’t and you will be able to find them when you need them next! Est. Time: 10 minutes
As you can see, in only thirty minutes you can tackle that awful paper pile, organize a drawer or two, remove trash and debris, and put misplaced items back to their appropriate place. Your room will be more clean and organized and you are sure to feel the difference.
Should you finish early with time to spare, here are a few more tasks you can take on that only require a minute or two at most!
Add a label.
Labels help us feel more organized and give every day items a home. Grab a marker, some tape, and make a label or two for your boxes or shelves. This will also help the family stay involved when staying organized.
Clean out your wallet.
Not all organizational projects need to take place in the house. Spend a minute cleaning out your wallet tossing old receipts and papers you no longer need.
Toss expired items.
Double check items in your medicine cabinet to see if any are expired. Dispose of immediately.
Lack of time does not have to be an excuse to not get organized. As you can see, you can make quite a difference in only thirty minutes! In a week’s time, these little bits of time ad up to 3.5 hours. Now that is productive!
So gather your stopwatch or set your oven clock. You are only thirty minutes away from feeling more organized and seeing a difference in your home and life
