Thanks to One To One Network, I was given the opportunity to see Mat Kearney live in Concert at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Georgia!
My husband and I made this awesome occasion a “date night”! We headed to Athens, which is about a 90 minute drive from where we live. We were able to get reservations at The Foundry Park Inn and Spa located just minutes from the Georgia Theatre. It was a beautiful Hotel that offered everything from on site entertainment at the restaurant “Melting Point” to luxurious spa packages! Unfortunately we didn’t have time to take advantage of any of the spa treatments.
We decided to try out the Melting Point Restaurant for dinner and I’m so glad we did! It’s like a dinner music theatre. The multi-tiered structure offers a myriad of seating options. They offer indoor and outdoor patio seating. They have a stage where music fans have clear views throughout the restaurant. The food was spectacular and priced very affordable! The restaurant was such a great concept!
After Dinner we headed to the Georgia Theatre. Our hotel had a FREE Shuttle service that dropped us off and picked us up after the show! Awesome!! If you have never been to the Georgia Theatre, it has a lot of history and has hosted great artists like B-52s, REM, John Mayer and Edwin McCain!
The show was general admission, and the theatre was absolutely packed! The opening band, Leagues, to be honest with you, was not that great. It looked liked the lead singer rolled out of bed on to the stage. {I’m really trying to be nice!} The crowd, which was mostly college kids from UGA and a mix of middle aged folks like myself, waited patiently for Mat Kearney to take the stage. Finally, Mat Kearney took the stage and from the first song, I was blown away! Mat has an amazing talent not only vocally but switched between an acoustic guitar to electric guitar, and piano. Many of the songs were upbeat and hip and the audience was dancing and singing along. My favorite songs had to be Hey Mama, All I Need, Undeniable and Close to Me.{to name a few lol!} He surprised everyone when he jumped off stage and made his way around the room. I have a short video where he sat right beside me. Throughout the night, Mat was friendly and engaged the audience with jokes, conversation and heartfelt stories!
