My dog, Princess, has been part of this family for a long time. The picture below was taken when we 1st adopted her. It seems like yesterday we saw her little brown and tan, Reese-cup colored face at the Petsmart Chihuahua rescue event. A Chihuahua and Dachshund mix, she was the cutest puppy I had ever seen and is still the cutest dog 8 years later.
She is very affectionate and very food driven in that she will do ANYTHING for a snack. As a matter of fact, she is her most active when we are having a meal. She patrols around hoping that someone drops a morsel of food, but she rarely begs. She loves the kids and plays with my son, Gabriel, to the best of her 8 year old ability. Whenever someone meets her for the first time, they fall in love with her because she is so sweet. Every visitor that comes to the house gets a happy greeting from Princess. She will greet them and then move on to relax on her favorite couch.
She goes with us on trips, on the boat, and driving around performing errands. She is truly this family’s best friend. When it comes to our best friend, we always want to give her the best of everything. She always gives us her best! With that in mind, we want to make sure we are giving her the nutrition she needs that is appropriate for her age.
We have decided to change her food to Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND Dog Food. Princess loves taking trips in the car so she joined us as we headed to Petsmart to get the food.
According to ProPlan, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change at age 7 which can affect awareness, learning, and decision-making. Their food contains the right balance of nutrition and additional botanical oils that will enhance a senior dog’s alertness and trainability. Even though we don’t notice any loss of cognitive skills with Princess, we want to ensure she is getting the food she needs to keep her thinking and acting her best.
We found Purina ProPlan Bright Mind at PetSmart in the dog food aisle.
If you are anything like me, you’ll be anxious to see the difference Pro Plan can make in your dog, but please allow 7-10 days to ease the transition from your dog’s current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you’re feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets.
Princess is eating the Chicken & Rice Formula and really likes it. We are already noticing some changes in her! I will update you all with how she is doing in a few weeks.
