Amwell – Your Online Doctor Visits 24/7
I’m sure you have noticed that we are in the middle of an extremely severe flu season. The last thing I want to do is drag my family into the Emergency room or Urgent Care to be seen for “flu-like” symptoms that may well just be a cold. I would rather keep them home so they are not exposed to other viruses and germs.
The only problem is that my son had been sick going on 4 days and things didn’t seem to be improving. A friend of mine told me that she used an online doctor through Amwell to diagnose and treat her with a sinus infection.
I thought maybe they would be able to help my son Gabriel without me having to leave the house.
I was really excited to learn about Amwell. Amwell connects you to doctors, 24/7, using your phone, tablet, or computer and is only $59 per visit compared to $139 (average office visit)!
Plus, they accept many insurance companies. So convenient! Amwell has also offered 25% off, good for an urgent care visit at Amwell. All you have to do is use the promo code: MOM45 which is good until 12/31/18..
The doctors at Amwell can help you with a wide range of symptoms like Allergies, Sinus Infections, Bronchitis, the Stomach Flu, Hypertension, Pink-eye, Strep Throat, Flu, Gout, UTI, Acne, and Cold Sores, to name a few. Their physicians are board-certified, licensed and credentialed.
My first visit to Amwell was on a Friday night and I was tired from the week and the last thing I wanted to do was take my son to Urgent Care. My youngest, Gabriel, who is 10 years old, was having cold-like symptoms for about 4 days and it didn’t seem to be subsiding.
He was dealing with coughing, sneezing, stomach pain, headaches, and the occasional fever.
I got on my computer and went to the Amwell website. After putting in some information, we were instructed to download the chat service and within minutes we were seen by a doctor.
There were no waiting rooms, no exposing Gabriel to other sick kids, PLUS the entire process was EASY and quick. Just choose the type of visit you are looking for and select a provider. Depending on the issue at hand, the doctor can diagnose, suggest follow up, and prescribe, when appropriate.
We were able to chat online with a lovely doctor by the name of Linda Stiles. She talked to Gabriel about his issues. After asking Gabriel questions like “Where is your headache located”, “Does it hurt when you cough, and “Gabe, would you know what it felt like to be run over by a truck?”, she was able to zero in quickly to what was ailing him and possible solutions.
After going over some background and all his symptoms, she told us how the medications that he was currently taking might not help his symptoms but make them worse. She recommended some medications that he could take over the counter that would help with the cough, fever and headache.
She also advised us to seek care with our Primary Care Manager if symptoms got worse and to get him tested for the flu. We ended the call with her sending a prescription to my local pharmacy. We picked up the prescription and he felt so much better the next day. It was so great to be able to get Gabriel diagnosed without ever leaving the house.
Now if you are like me and forget parts of a conversation sometime (mom-brain), then Amwell has you covered. I was able to login and look at the transcripts from our conversation, see provider notes, prescriptions, diagnoses & procedures.
I’m so thankful for services like this that make it easier for busy parents like myself and husband. I will be using the service in the future and highly suggest that you give Amwell a try next time you or a loved one need to see a doctor.
