What makes your family happy?

What keeps you and your family happy?

I love being able to to make my family happy, but sometimes that can be a hard task! There are five of us in this house and I can almost bet you that someone is going to be having a not so happy day. What I have found to be true is that my mood sets the tone for almost everyone in the house. If I am in a bad mood, it will eventually put my husband in a mood which will keep on going until our 3 year old is having a tantrum.

Remember the song “Don’t worry, be happy”!! Well we should all sing that when things are going not so good! 🙂   Other people can  undoubtedly play a role in our happiness, but  ultimately, it’s up to us to create happiness for ourselves.
The ability to seek and find humor and laughter in any given situation is a gift you give yourself, but one that takes work! Our family laughs a lot!  We try to find humor in everything and I think it keeps us looking young and happy! I know it can be hard to find humor in tough situations but you just have to find a new perspective to the situation.

Don’t live in the past and miss out on the joy and happiness that is going on right now. Forgive people and move on with your life! You cannot live a joyful, happy life if you are holding on to resentment or anger.  Colossians 3:13
“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

Our family sits around the table every night for dinner and we talk about our day with each other. I think this is very important for families to do. I find out stuff that my kids won’t take the time to tell me just in passing. My mom and dad made sure that we had dinner together every night and I hope my kids continue on with the tradition.

We also pray together and ask God to help us in our daily struggles and problems. This is always so freeing and knowing that God is going to make everything work out how he wants it to, brings happiness and joy to me every time! I sometimes wonder if my kids are getting the same thing out of the prayer. I wonder if I’m doing enough to help them foster a relationship with Jesus. Just when I start to doubt that they are earnest about God and serving him, one of my children will come to me with a problem and ask me to pray with them. Then, I know that they get  it.

In my opinion, lasting happiness can only come from the Lord. Material things of this world can only give you joy for the moment and once it ages, rust or disintegrates, that joy is gone.
