Tips For Staying Fit While Traveling

Summer vacations are on your mind, but your recent health changes or weight loss may become a concern as you prepare to travel.  Not only will you have tons of food temptations coming at you, but you are likely to have a hard time finding the time or place to do your regular workouts.

Here are Tips For Staying Fit While Traveling that are sure to help you keep your body moving while still enjoying the relaxation of a few days away from home.  Just because you are out of your normal daily routine doesn’t mean you can’t take care of your body just the same as you would at home.

TIPS FOR STAYING FIT WHILE TRAVELING

Opt For Hotels & Resorts With Fitness Centers:

Double check before booking your reservation that your destination is going to have an easy to access fitness center on the grounds.  While it may not include the same equipment you use at home, a half hour a day on a bicycle, elliptical or treadmill will keep your metabolism in good shape without taking too much time away from your family.

Wait Until The Kids Are Asleep:

If wrangling the kids for an hour in a small hotel room is overwhelming to your spouse, simply wait until they are asleep then slip down to the fitness room for your quick workout.  If the fitness center has closed and you are in a nice area of town, step outside and make laps around the parking lot for half an hour to get your heart pumping.

Go For A walk

Park And Walk:

When playing tourist you have multiple opportunities to park your car far from your destination and walk.  Park at the end of a parking lot, or at the corner parking structure and walk to your destination instead of parking right up front.  This is a great way to increase your exercise without taking time away from your family.

Go For A Swim

Drink Plenty Of Water:

One thing that helps a lot when traveling is to keep up on your water intake.  Take along a reusable water bottle and refill frequently.  Not only will it keep you hydrated and healthy, but it will help you feel full longer so the urge to snack in the car or out and about won’t be so strong.

Don’t Skip Breakfast:

Often times vacations mean you are running later getting up in the morning and eating on the go.  It may be tempting to skip breakfast or even grab a pastry in a hurry, but planning ahead with fresh fruit, yogurt and lean protein on hand is the way to go.  Most continental breakfasts provided at hotels include various whole grain breads, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit and yogurts that are a great way to start your day.

Go For A Swim:

The kids are going to beg you to get in the pool or the head to the beach, so pack your suit and take advantage.  Have fun splashing around with the kids or simply do a few laps for exercise.  This is a great time to combine family time with exercise to not only help yourself stay in check but to encourage your kids to be healthy too.

Get Plenty Of Rest:

It’s tempting to stay up too late or get up too early to see and do as much as possible, but sleep is an intregal part of your health.  When you are overly tired you are more likely to skip exercise, eat excess calories or fall ill.  Make sure you are getting at least 7-8 hours of good sleep each night.

Workout Online:

One of my favorite sites to check out is Blogilates! It’s a site and YouTube channel run by a young woman named Cassey Ho. She is so wonderful and inspiring! Her energy is contagious and you can’t help but smile when she talks. She has calendars for beginners to follow. Each calendar has a set of exercises and corresponding YouTube videos. PLUS it’s totally FREE!!! Be sure to check it out!!

Staying fit while traveling is not impossible to do.  Going prepared and knowing about your destinations and what to expect will go far toward keeping your routine in check and your body healthy.  Don’t stress over a few mishaps along the way.  Get back up and start over each day.
