I have made pulled pork in the past and it NEVER tasted this flavorful. It fell apart so easily and tasted DELISH! Pulled Pork is perfect for Super Bowl football parties, when you have company or just because you want some comfort food!

When trying to find the perfect pork shoulder, I like to buy between a 4-6 pound whole pork boston butt so that we have enough for leftovers. Normally our family doesn’t enjoy leftovers but this is so good, everyone will eat it for the next few days.

Easy Pulled Pork Recipe using Instant Pot

Yield: 4-6
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Additional Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes

I have made pulled pork in the past and it NEVER tasted this flavorful. It fell apart so easily and tasted DELISH! Pulled Pork is perfect for Super Bowl football parties, when you have company or just because you want some comfort food!

Ingredients

  • 1 Pork Shoulder {we used 4.3 pounds}
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Dry Rub
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder (most people like to only use 1/2 teaspoon)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Barbeque Sauce:
  • Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce 28 ounce {our favorite!}
  • 1 1/2 cups Water

Instructions

  1. Cut your pork shoulder into large pieces. { I had about 6 parts}
  2. Make your Dry Rub and rub it real good into both sides of the meat.
  3. Set "Saute" on your Instant Pot and ADD 2 tbsp of oil
  4. Add meat to brown all sides (3 minutes a side works very well)
  5. Mix 1 1/2 cup of water with 1/2 bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce,
  6. Once all pork has been browned, remove the meat from your Instant Pot
  7. Add mixture of water and BBQ sauce to Instant Pot to deglaze bottom of pot. {Use wooden spoon to scrape bottom of Instant Pot}
  8. Add pork back into Instant Pot
  9. Lock lid and set venting to "Sealing" on Instant Pot
  10. Choose the "Manuel" setting and set to 60 minutes
  11. Wait for pressure to build up {you should see the pressure pin pop up after a few minutes}
  12. After 60 minutes of pressure cooking, carefully release pressure to "Venting"
  13. Use forks or tongs to pull apart all pork {should be super tender and fall apart}
  14. You can either serve or place the pulled pork back in the juices for a bit while you get everything else ready! You can use the rest of the BBQ sauce but we found that we really didn't need it!

  1. Hello Bianca, for the EASY PULLED PORK RECIPE USING INSTANT POT, the recipe calls for 1/2 bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce but you don't say 1/2 a bottle of what size Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce. The sauce comes in 2 sizes. May I suggest specifying the ingredient in cup sizes, such as 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup etc? Thank you.
  2. How much did this recipe serve?
  3. If you have a kitchenaid or other stand mixer you can place the meat in the bowl with the paddle attachment. Turn it on low for a few seconds then up to high and the meat will be shredded!
  4. Fantastic! Maiden voyage with this recipe and it was perfect!
  5. Any reason I can't use some leftover apple juice instead of water with this?
  6. I made this the other day. Very tasty! I only used 1/8 tsp cayenne and it had enough heat for us. The dry rub added great flavor. I only had about 2.5 lb of pork so I cooked for 50 min and natural release. Will definitely make this again. I used it for pulled pork pizza.
  7. I am using a 7.5 lb pork shoulder roast. How long do you think I should cook it for in the instant pot?
  8. There goes one of them magical Instant Pots again. Every time I find a yummy recipe like this, I move Instant Pot up on my wish list. I really am ready to get one of these so I can try your recipe.
  9. I have used my slow cooker to make easy pulled pork. Your Instant Pot recipe looks and sounds super tasty!
  10. looking at this photos is making me hungry! im not a big cook but my husband is and will surely share this great recipe with him! www.crayonized.com
  11. I have a pressure cooker but have never used it, I tend to only use my slow cooker. Could this recipe be made with a slow cooker instead?
    • I'm sure that it could be made in the slow cooker, BUT in my opinion the meat turned out to be more tender and tasteful. PLUS the time to make it was a lot shorter . If you use a slow cooker, then it will take at least 2x or 3x longer. I hope that helps.
  12. I've heard a lot about the Instant Pot, but I don't have one yet. This looks and sounds like a delicious recipe.
  13. I need to purchase an instant pot to help me cook more frequently at home.
  14. I love the Instant Pot! I have been looking for new recipes, so this is perfect. Can't wait to try it!

    The Instant Pot is something I will have to get because it is easy to through a meal in to cook all day and it just taste such better. Pulled pork sandwiches is one of my favorite meals. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
  16. Instant pot is such a life saver. Specially on a weeknight when you are looking for something quick and eat.
  17. I have just purchased one and have not used it yet. This may be my first meal. I noticed that it comes with a trivit. Do I need to put the meat on that or just right into the pot? Like I said, Im new to this. :)
    • I’m trying this tonight but my guess is no on the trivet You’re gonna sear the meat on pot bottom and then deglaze the “ drippings” with the water and bbq sauce.
  18. Did you use a bone in or boneless shoulder? Looks amazing!! Can’t wait to try this!
  19. Alexa Gemmill says
    I have a frozen roast. Does this change anything?!
  20. Can this be made into a freezer meal?
  21. Hi. Did you put the meat back in the juices to cook or on the rack? Thanks!
  22. Delicious! This is my go to know! My kids went back for thirds...
  23. I made this tonight and used 1/2 bottle of the large size bbq size (a good one) and it was delicious! I added chopped onion then the meat. After cooking, I scooped out the meat and used two forks to break it up. Then slowly added sauce to it until it was real juicy but not completely soaked. Delicious! Will save and share :)
  24. What size is your instapot? I have a mini 3 qt would this recipe be too big?
  25. So you say brown each side, in the instant pot?
  26. Hello! I have an 8 pound pork shoulder.... do you think I need to double the cooking time?
  27. First time making pulled pork and it was YUMMY! I had all the ingredients, it was easy to make. A neighbor just dropped by as we were getting ready to eat and we had plenty of extra to serve him. Our neighbor had two sandwiches and even took home extra meat for later. It was THAT GOOD! My husband says, I HAVE to make this again!
  28. Laura Tong says
    I added liquid smoke. Is this meat setting low, medium or high?
  29. Hi! This looks so great! Do you recall if you used high or low pressure setting with the meat setting? Thanks!
  30. I have the Duo Plus and it’s my first time using it. Do I use the normal or high pressure cooker setting?
  31. Tricia Dever says
    I made your easy pulled pork recipe last night and the bottom pieces burnt badly. It was filled with liquid. Am I supposed to let it cool down after the saute (brown the pork)? I am pretty sure I followed your directions.
  32. Hi! I’m starting with frozen pork loin, how do I adjust the time according? Thanks!
  33. Do you have the manual setting on High?” For the pressure cooking?
  34. I want to try this recipe but my pork roast is frozen .. can I still cook it in the pressure cooker frozen.. and if so how long? Its probably around 2lbs.
  35. I used this recipe as it was one of the first one's I researched that used the most minimal time (1 hr). My dry rub was an all-season spice found in the house with some salt & pepper. Added garlic and onion powder to the water. Also used Bull's Eye bbq sauce instead (as that's all I had). Served it with a salad and wow... ...HOLY WONDERFUL! Worked like a dream! Thanks for helping me with my very 1st Instant Pot meal!
  36. Can you use boneless pork chops if you don’t fave a shoulder or butt?
  37. The bbq recipe was easy and tasted good. But found it’s like chili, second day it was fantastic! Never made rub before going to try it on chicken breast and let it sit over night before cooking.
  38. I just bought the Instapot Duo SV this week, this was the first thing I made in it. It was delicious! Followed your suggestion to use less cinnamon, a little less than half teaspoon worked fine. Printed recipe, will be using again! Thank you for the great directions, as a newbie I really appreciated that.
  39. I use this recipe every time, except I replace the water with root beer. It's very good! Thanks for sharing!
  40. This is hands down, the best pulled pork recipe I've ever made. Printed the recipe out in 2018 and have made it ever since! Thank you Bianca!!
  41. Debbie Armour says
