Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese Recipe

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons butter
2 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cheddar cheese soup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk (I used 1%)
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

I also used fresh garlic {about 2-3 cloves} and it gave it a nice flavor!

Directions:
Boil the macaroni in water for six minutes and drain {all dente}. In a medium saucepan, mix butter and cheese. Heat over medium high heat and stir until the cheese melts. Spray your slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Combine cheese mixture, sour cream, soup, salt, milk, mustard and pepper in your slow cooker. Add the drained macaroni and stir again.

Cook on low for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally!

  1. Delicious!
    • Hi Bianca, I was just curious. I noticed that you seem to cook everything on the stove first before putting it in the crockpot. Is it possible to just mix the rest of the ingredients on the stove and then throw it in the oven so it can get a nice golden top? Or does putting in the crockpot provide a better flavor or finish product?
      • I think you could cook the pasta a bit longer and then put the rest of the ingredients in the stove and it would taste just as good. I haven't tried it. Let me know how it turns out if you do try it!!
  2. I can attest that this recipe is amazing because it's exactly the same recipe that I use... which is actually an adaption of Paula Deen's Creamy Macaroni and Cheese recipe. I leave out the eggs that she uses and it makes the recipe the same as this one. If this is also an adaption of Paula 's recipe, you might want to give credit to her as well. If not, nice job coming up with this one on your own! It's definitely my favorite :-)
    • This is a recipe that I actually came up with after trying several crockpot mac and cheese recipes. I've actually never even seen Paula Dean's recipe. Do you also put the fresh garlic in your recipe? It really is delicious! Thanks!
  3. How Garlic? You say use fresh but never say how much??????????
  4. How much does this make, servings and size? I would like to try this out for a group. Sounds delicious.
    • And also, this may be a dumb question...but is 2 cups of the pasta measured out by cups or are you talking about 16 ounces of pasta? I think 16 ounces of pasta likely wouldn't fit into 2 cups...not sure though. I just need to know so I can figure out nutrition information and also so I can make it correctly :)
      • Bianca Mcneace says
It's 2 cups of uncooked pasta... not the entire 16 oz.
      • I used the whole 16oz box of large shells and had plenty of sauce to go with it. I was a little unsure about the nutrition value as well as I try to count my calories. I just tried going with Paula Deans recipe (even though she uses elbow macaroni). She estimated 133g (which is about 1/2c) is 233calories, hope that kind of helps :)
    • Bianca Mcneace says
It makes enough for about 4 people.

Hi! I'm trying this recipe for the first time--I work nights and my husband gets home from work around 7, so I'm trying out crock pot dinners. This will be my fourth dinner:) I did add some chopped onion to the butter, I hope that it works! I am concerned that maybe I messed up with the cheddar, however. I melted it as directed with the butter and it turned into a globule of cheese! Is this how it should be, or did my adding onions to the butter mess it up? Am hoping it distributes evenly as it cooks in the crock. Thank you, this recipe looks great!

I see that this recipie serves 4. I need to make it for 15 people. Should I quadruple everything? Or just the pasta portion? Thanks:)

Hi Bianca, I just made this for a co-worker who just had breast cancer surgery and I want to give her the preheat instructions, what do you think they should be. Its delicious by the way thanks!!
  7. my cheese turned into a big glob. Will it spread over the macaroni in the slow cooker.
  8. I think its pretty good recipe! Can i share it to my pinterest?
  9. I love crockpot meals! Thanks so much for stopping by the Bloggers Spotlight over the holidays, your pin was added to our group board. Check back next Thursday to see who was featured and link up again.
  10. I've made these twice and both times were a hit! I was getting the chciken ready to go to put them together for a Christmas party tomorrow, right now only thing that is mixed is the chciken and shredded cheese .I randomly decided to throw in a half teaspoon of garlic powder as thought it would go well and give them a little extra flavor but now I'm worried I ruined them or it won't go well with the cornflake crumbs or something. Thought?? I'm debating on blotting with a paper towel to try to get some off now, lol[] Reply:December 15th, 2012 at 8:19 AMhaha! Well, I might be too late with my response, but I don't think you need to worry too much. I probably would've started with just 1/4 teaspoon of the garlic powder, though. I'm curious how they ended up tasting for you. We all have our moments of wanting to add a little more of something here and there. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Lesson learned? If it's not broke, don't try to fix it? haha!! []Sara Reply:December 15th, 2012 at 10:47 AMHa, nope you are not too late, I will be blotting shortly:) I was on a chciken salad kick awhile ago and I accidentally used Miracle Whip instead of Mayo which I don't like at all in chciken salad. I was so mad I may have wasted chciken and ruined my salad, I blotted that chciken for at least a half hour, my husband thought I was nuts:) But hey it worked!:) Agreed, totally should have put in less to try it out and the if it's not broke don't fix it sentiment! Well I'll let you know how they end up tasting, thanks for the response!:)[]
