post workout tips

I have been working at living a healthier life day by day. I’ve been exercising and eating healthier foods which in turn is helping me get stronger, more lean, flexible and energized! I am starting to see the results of my lifestyle change and it feels great! I’ve come to realize that this is a long-term process that requires really hard work. Your post workout recovery routine has a big impact on your fitness gains and sports performance and allows you to train much more effectively. Unfortunately, most people don’t have an after exercise recovery plan. Here are some tips to get your post-workout plans on track.

Here are 5 Tips for Post Workout that are easy yet IMPORTANT!

1) Cool Down

The first thing you need to do is cool down. Whether you’re running, biking, swimming, or taking a cardio class, slowing down your pace for the last five minutes is the perfect cooldown. You want to bring down your heart rate at a slow and steady pace, which helps you avoid feeling sick after a workout.

2) Stretch

I believe that this is one of the most important things you can do. After a workout, muscles naturally contract. Stretching after exercise also relaxes your muscles, helps speed circulation to joints and tissues, and helps removal of unwanted waste products, thereby reducing muscle soreness and stiffness.

3) Drink Water

Even when you are actually done exercising, you need to keep replenishing your fluid levels. It’s recommended that you drink another 2-3 cups within two hours after you have finished. Then, drink water regularly afterwards. Even if you don’t feel thirsty anymore, you still need to replenish yourself to avoid getting dehydrated.

4) Refuel

Eating is one of the last, but one of the most important, items to do after a workout. You have burned hundreds of calories and lost lots of carbohydrates. If you are exercising to lose weight, don’t worry — eating doesn’t cancel out the calories you just burned. That’s because while working out, your body burns fat for energy. The healthy calories you consume after a workout are used to repair and refuel. You need to repair your muscles and boost your energy level, and you need to do it fast. The sooner you eat after a workout, the better. I like to throw a couple bags of  Emerald®’s Breakfast On the Go!™ Nutty Bites and Emerald® Mixed Nuts in my workout bag.

These Breakfast On the Go!™ Nutty Bites Berry Blend is on of my favorites right now!

5) Praise Yourself

Go ahead and look in the mirror and praise yourself. See what happens when you fill yourself up with good stuff. Tell yourself you are worth it. And then watch how much acknowledgement you receive.
